organization
We are part of the REWE Group. To be more specific, we are the largest IT unit within the REWE Group and we are driving the digitalisation of the retail sector and the world of work – for millions of customers every week and around 380,000 employees. The best teams for our digital products and services are formed from our pool of more than 2,700 colleagues at 11 locations in five countries. And our divisional team members ensure that we have the necessary structures and efficiencies for IT solution development.
The REWE Group’s largest IT unit
The REWE Group’s success story started out almost 100 years ago in Cologne. Today, the retail and tourism group has stores and travel agencies in 21 European countries. It is part of the everyday world of more than 380,000 employees and millions of customers who shop for groceries, DIY and gardening products, to-go convenience foods or holidays. So our IT solutions are an elementary part of the REWE Group’s various retail segments.
One group, many brands
The REWE Group is divided into different business divisions and has numerous retail brands. REWE supermarkets and PENNY discount stores are among the best-known brands in the German Retail sector. They are joined by other international brands such as BILLA supermarkets and BIPA drugstores in Austria, IKI in Lithuania and PENNY International in Italy and Romania.
Customer, Analytics and Technology
The diversity of the REWE Group necessitates multifaceted digital solutions. Challenge accepted. Our cross-functional and interdisciplinary teams bring together different perspectives, business expertise and IT skills from across the entire group. This is because the Digital and Technology division combines the REWE Group’s Customer, Strategy and Analytics departments with REWE digital’s Technology, IT Strategy, Governance and Security in the CAT team. Our IT Verticals and Ventures team is also part of the division.
We’re designing the digital retail architecture of the future
Our Dev Board members are REWE Group management board member Christoph Eltze (CDTO) and our management team comprising Stefan Matzelle, Dr André Marburger, Guido Hoepfner, Dr Robert Zores and Martin Fluch.
Our IT domains
We structure our growing IT portfolio in a domain model (business capability model). This allows us to create transparency, tap into synergies and identify potential for optimisation. Our domain model works a bit like a filing system because we use it to organise, review and evaluate apps, products and systems. It also incorporates channels for customer interaction, core business capabilities along the REWE value stream and REWE-wide group functions.

fulfillmenttools
fulfillmenttools ensures that products ordered online are dispatched to customers from the fulfilment centre or store. The software is based on our solution for the REWE delivery service and has a modular structure that is suitable for all B2C and B2B retail businesses.
Loql
Loql connects regional producers with food retailers. Farmers can quickly and easily offer their produce to B2B buyers such as the independent, REWE-affiliated retailers on the digital platform. This shortens supply chains, gives the local economy a boost and digitalises the entire industry.
ZooRoyal
This is basically a grocery store – and more – for pets. Starting out as an online shop, ZooRoyal now has five brick-and-mortar stores selling pet supplies. ZooRoyal has been part of the REWE Group as an IT Vertical since 2014 and is now the third-largest pet retailer, offering a comprehensive assortment of products, high availability and fast deliveries.
Weinfreunde
Weinfreunde is the REWE Group’s online wine retailer. The web shop complements the wine expertise of specialist e-commerce retailers. Customers can quickly and easily find the right wine for every preference on the website.

We believe in our own innovations – and those of our partners. That’s why we focus on long-term partnerships and invest in companies that advance our ideas and the entire industry. Our current investments include Wingcopter, which is part of our collaboration with LieferMichel; Cartken, manufacturer of autonomous robots such as our delivery bot; Trigo Vision, which supports us with computer vision technology for REWE Pick&Go; and Flink, with which REWE has an exclusive supplier arrangement.
