IT Engineer (Go/Kafka)

As the central solution provider for information and telecommunications systems in REWE Digital Spain we plan, develop, configure, and operate efficient systems and applications for the REWE Group, one of the leading trade and tourism groups in Germany and Europe with around 400,000 employees. Our team of over 2,200 IT specialists sets standards for IT implementation in the retail industry and develops new technologies for the sector. Currently, we manage more than 80 logistics centers, 100 wide area network cables, and over 23,000 local network connections to ensure continuous data supply to the 32,000 scanner check-out desks in more than 7,500 stores.

What you will do:

• Learn and contribute: Support the design, implementation, and documentation of requirements for our Kafka platform and its ecosystem, guided by experienced engineers.
• Build foundations: Help operate, monitor, and improve modern integration systems with a focus on Apache Kafka.
• Code and automate: Develop and maintain internal tools, small services, and automation using Go, with mentoring and code reviews.
• Work in a team: Collaborate with product teams and stakeholders in an agile environment and learn how platform engineering works in practice.
• Grow operational skills: Support second-level operations, assist in troubleshooting, and learn how to analyze performance and capacity issues.
• Develop yourself: Follow established architectures and best practices and gradually build deeper Kafka and platform knowledge.
• Be part of the team: Participate in on-call duties after onboarding and with proper support.

What you will bring:

• Basic understanding of Apache Kafka concepts (e.g. brokers, topics, partitions, replication).
• First hands-on experience with Kafka from studies, trainings, labs, or initial production exposure.
• Interest in learning how to install, configure, and operate Kafka clusters in production environments.
• Familiarity with Kafka CLI tools or strong willingness to learn them.
• Initial experience with Go programming (e.g. university projects, internships, or junior roles) and motivation to grow as a software engineer.
